Online Course - Module #7:
Developing Adult Numeracy
Developing Adult Numeracy: Practitioner Training Course
This
course was developed by Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) with
project funding from the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and
Universities and the National Literacy Secretariat of Canada.
Developing Adult Numeracy (DAN) is designed primarily as a practitioner
training resource for Literacy and Basic Skills practitioners in all sectors
of Ontario, however, those from other jurisdictions may also find the course
relevant. It is based upon prior project work by OCDSB on practitioner needs
and effective professional development in numeracy teaching, blended with
current research in adult numeracy.
The
course is delivered via a highly interactive and dynamic framework, thus
users require some specialized, but freely downloadable programs in order to
engage with it fully. In addition to a web browser and internet connection,
users require the following:
-
Macromedia Flash Player (ver.6)
-
Adobe Reader (ver.5)
-
RealPlayer
In
addition, this course makes use of pop-up windows, so you will need to
either disable your web browser's pop-up blocking or manually allow a pop-up
event each time you open a new module. See the Troubleshooting Tips
on the course table of contents (once inside the course) for more
information.
If you
can see the animated movie below, then your Flash player should be ok.
(Right click on the image below to check the version if you're unsure.) If
you don't see the movie playing, follow the Get Flash Player link
below for your free download.
When you're ready to begin, click on
the link to enter the DAN course.
